Chemical peels can be used for a variety of different things such as acne scars, age spots, aging skin, crow’s feet, hyperpigmentation, sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, and sagging skin. It is used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck or hands. It is placed on the skin and it exfoliates the skin and is eventually peeling off. The end result is smoother and younger skin. However, the new skin after the chemical peel is temporarily more sensitive to the sun. It is important to stay cautious and assure that you don’t have direct exposure to the sun after a chemical peel.

There are three different types of chemical peels. The three types are superficial peel, medium peel, and deep peel. Superficial being the least harsh and deep peel being the strongest. The superficial peel utilizes mild acid to penetrate the outer layer of skin and gently exfoliate it. This type only improves mild skin discoloration and refreshes the area receiving the peel. The medium peed uses a stronger acid to penetrate the outer and middle layers of the skin and removes damaged skin cells.  This chemical peel is a bit stronger so it removes fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, freckles and moderate skin discoloration. However, the harshest chemical peel is the deep peel. This peel uses an extremely strong acid to deeply penetrate the middle layer of skin and remove all damaged skin cells. After receiving this peel, the patient will notice a dramatic improvement in their skin. This peel can only be used on the skin.

Due to the drastic improvement of skin from chemical peels, they are becoming more and more popular. This peel can take years off of one's appearance. This procedure is also a lot less invasive than any injections and especially any surgical procedure.  It typically takes seven to ten days for the skin to regenerate after receiving a chemical peel but in some cases, it can take even longer.
