Nose is the most prominent feature of the face. Many transgender individuals find nasal refinement to make one of the most marked improvements in facial appearance. Some changes, such as subtly lifting the tip of the nose will often create a more youthful and feminine appearance. Also, reducing brow ridges, if excessive, can additionally improve the feminine appearance.
Dr. Kassir specializes in bulbous tip, or boxy tip rhinoplasty. In an ideal situation, the nasal tip forms a nice equilateral triangle when observed from the base view. However, in some individuals, the nasal tip is bulbous due to broad underlying nasal cartilages. This can produce a boxy or in some cases, a trapezoidal tip. An effective to combat this condition is rhinoplasty. This can be done by reducing the alar cartilage, cephalic trimming of the lower lateral cartilages, and using sutures to manipulate the angles of the cartilages.
Most African-American/black rhinoplasty (“nose job”) patients seek to improve the appearance of their nose without erasing their heritage and identity. Typically, requests include lifting the bridge, narrowing the nostrils, and enhancing the profile. It takes skill and sensitivity to achieve a cosmetic result that beautifies the face while respecting and preserving ethnicity.
There are technical challenges when refining an ethnic nose that deserve special consideration. A plastic surgeon needs to be aware of the fact that African-Americans often have broader and somewhat flatter noses than Europeans. They also have thicker skin (as do Hispanics) and this makes refining the nasal tip more challenging. In addition, African-American nasal bones are comparatively short, requiring special care
A broken nose is commonly referred to as a nasal fracture and is due to a crack or break in the nose. It can be a painful experience and lead to swelling and bruising. Severe cases may lead to a crooked nose and trouble breathing. Potential symptoms include pain, altered shape, bleeding, a feeling that the nasal passages are blocked, and a discharge of mucus. Rhinoplasty is an effective procedure that can be used to realign a broken nose or to repair any deformities that were caused.
