Hello Spring, Goodbye Past Mistakes: Tattoo Removal 101

We all have past regrets - some are etched permanently into our memories, while others are displayed on our skin for all to see. At certain points in our lives, we make decisions that seem brilliant at the time. But as time passes, we realize we have evolved and we may not be so fond of that choice. Thankfully, we have the ability to mask or erase these, so that the reality of this realization isn’t so harsh.

Tattoo removal is one way of allowing yourself a fresh start as the spring season begins to bloom. During your initial consultation, I’ll sit down with you to help you get a clearer understanding of what a tattoo removal involves and explain the various options for the procedure. Just to give you an overview, here are some brief descriptions of what I’ll go indepth about during your visit.

Types of Procedures:

Laser - a high intensity light is used to break down the pigmented color of the ink. This is done over a series of 3-10 sessions with 4-6 week breaks between each session. This is one of the most common forms of tattoo removal.

Excision - this is where the surgeon removes the area of skin where the tattoo is located, then once the ink is extracted, the removed skin will be reattached via stitches. This is also a very common procedure for tattoo removal. This method removes all traces of ink, but will result in scarring.

Dermabrasion - for superficial or faded tattoos, dermabrasion may be used to remove the ink. This involves sanding away the skin containing the ink. This is not as commonly performed, but it is one approach to tattoo removal.
