It is no secret that new technological advancements increase demand and awareness in the vast field of cosmetic surgery.  New technology delivers less invasive procedures and more affordable ones, which help make plastic surgery more accessible to the general public and not just social elites and celebrities.

Along with advancements in technology, social media is the driving force for influence and information.

The idea of being image conscious is not new, but it has changed drastically with the presence of social media.  With social media, as a society, we are in spotlight more than ever before.

Those engaging in social media platforms become much more aware of their appearance; people see themselves in pictures often, especially after major events.  It used to be Hollywood celebrities, whose photos were in the spotlight- searching to correct and improve their facial features.  With the “Selfie” trend, we

They see their own pictures that they snap and post, as well as pictures that others post of them that are floating around social media.“Selfies” are the latest trend today, and this trend shows no sign of slowing down. Patients seek to enhance their facial features in order to look their best online.Patients see celebrities everywhere and often desire their features- Angelina Jolie’s lips and Natalie Portman’s nose for example.

The goal of cosmetic surgery is correction or enhancement, not perfection.2013 saw a 31% increase in requests for surgery as a result of social media photo sharing. "Last year I experienced a 700% increase in patients seeking cosmetic procedures from social media," says Dr. Kassir. Of the procedures requested as a result of social media influence, rhinoplasty topped the list.

Rhinoplasty: "Nose jobs", rhinoplasty, or cosmetic nasal surgery, improves the shape and size of the nose. The procedure can remove a hump, change the shape of the nasal tip, and straighten the nose. The size and shape of the nostrils can be changed. The goal of rhinoplasty is often to achieve better harmony between the nose and the other facial features. Dr. Kassir is a triple board certified surgeon who has performed thousands of rhinoplasty surgeries for his patients and is considered to be one of the best Rhinoplasty surgeons in New Jersey and NYC.

Most rhinoplasty patient fall between the ages of 18-30, which is the age group that mostly engages in Social Media Networks like Facebook, Youtube, Google +, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin.

After researching and selecting the right surgeon, the deciding factor for this age group is becomes price.  Most candidates are still in school or in entry level positions which make financing rhinoplasty a stretch.

Fortunately, there is an alternative to surgical rhinoplasty- the non-surgical one. For people who decide they don’t want to go through surgical rhinoplasty (whether it’s because of price or downtime), and wish to improve the appearance, we can use temporary fillers to perform non-surgical rhinoplasty.  Restylane®, Perlane®, Radiesse® or Juvederm can be used to camouflage bumps, or create a better bridge in a flat, narrow, or scooped nose. These fillers may be effective for about 1 year without any downtime.
